GYSGT Blaine M. HalvorsonApril 18, 1994 – September 12, 2021 Gold Star parents Jerry and Melissa Halvorson came to my studio to pick up Blaine’s portrait, and it was a delight to meet them. During our visit we saw their deep love and appreciation for having had Blaine as their son. Melissa wrote the following bio. ““Blaine served proudly in the U.S. Marine Core for 9 years, reaching the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Having wanted to serve from a young age, he planned on being a career Marine. He was a combat engineer who served in NC, SC, CA, and Japan. He was also honored to have been chosen to be a Marine Security Guard, protecting US embassies in Niger, Africa, and Chengdu, China. His exemplary service was recognized when he was asked to return to Quantico, VA as an instructor for other Marine Security Guards. Returning from a short leave Blaine experienced a flat on his 5th wheel travel trailer. While changing the tire he heard a "crash" and realized that the semi was going to strike him. He pushed his wife to safety, and she lived. He died September 12, 2021, a hero. Based on his wishes he was an organ donor and saved many lives. He is laid to rest on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery. His soul rests in peace. Blaine was a 2012 graduate of Kasson- Mantorville high school. He is survived and deeply missed by his father Jerry, mother Melissa, and his best friend and sister Mickaela. In addition Blaine leaves behind 2 grandmothers, 23 aunts & uncles, 23 first cousins....and a hole in our family's heart. Blaine's family speaks his name daily and keeps his legacy alive through scholarships and charities which support veterans in crisis. Semper Fi. Forever 27. Forever grateful”. It was my honor to paint Blaine’s portrait. Portrait sponsored by: |
